Vital Culture at TwitchCon Europe: Future Storytelling Takes the Stage

This weekend, our founder Tanya Vital took to the stage at TwitchCon Europe 2025 in Rotterdam to host a panel titled “Future Storytelling: Gaming, Performance & Twitch.”

Held in the NomNom Theatre, the session explored how platforms like Twitch are reshaping the way stories are told — blurring the lines between games, live performance, and interactive technology.

Tanya was joined by:

  • Joe Duggan, Digital Programme Manager at National Youth Theatre, discussing NYT’s experiments with immersive formats and digital actor training.

  • Marc Szanto, Solutions Architect at Twitch, sharing insight into the platform’s evolving support for creators working beyond traditional gaming.

Together, the panel dived into:

  • Vital Stories, a live-action mystery game piloted by Tanya, powered by Twitch tools like polls and chat-based decision making.

  • Game Changers, an XR project developed by Megaverse and NYT using Amazon IVS for low-latency performance.

  • Examples of interactive performance across Fortnite, GTA RP, VRChat, and Emmy-winning Twitch original Artificial:Next

While the panel wasn’t recorded for playback, it reached a live audience of 300+ online viewers, plus those attending in person — many of whom were exploring this hybrid genre for the first time.

Storytelling isn’t dying — it’s just finding new formats. Twitch is a stage. The audience is part of the cast now.
— Tanya Vital

The session closed with audience reflections on what Twitch could offer next to better support live, interactive creators — including built-in branching logic, inventory tools, and safer ways to experiment with AI and audience co-authorship.
