Legacy Lines

A geo-triggered digital storytelling format. Concept stage — seeking development partners and funding.

About the Project

Legacy Lines is a location-based digital storytelling format that turns local walks into guided narrative experiences. Participants move through physical spaces and unlock stories, through QR codes, audio and video — tied to the specific locations they're standing in.

The concept was originally developed for the University of York's EDI Exchange initiative. The current pilot concept is anchored in Leeds, built around Joe Williams' Black History Walk — bringing underrepresented histories to life through geo-triggered digital content.

Legacy Lines has not yet been built. This page documents the concept and development vision.

The Format

  • Participants follow a route through a location

  • QR codes at key sites unlock multimedia stories — video, audio, and interactive content

  • Content is co-created with local communities and historians

  • Accessible by design — BSL and audio description built into the format

  • Adaptable to any location with a strong heritage story to tell

Potential Locations

  • Leeds — Black history walk pilot, anchored in Joe Williams' existing route

  • Haworth — literary and industrial heritage, Brontë legacy

  • Further locations across Yorkshire and beyond

What We're Looking For

  • Legacy Lines is actively seeking development funding and heritage commissioning partners — museums, cultural venues, local authorities, and heritage organisations interested in co-developing the format.
