How Covid Stole Christmas

A Digital Celebration of Northern Music Talent — Tier 3 Lockdown, Dec 2020

Introduction

When Tier 3 restrictions cancelled live events in 2020, Vital Culture UK responded with a fully digital Christmas show, platforming Northern and underrepresented artists at a moment when the industry had largely gone quiet.

Broadcast live from MillTV studios on Twitch, How Covid Stole Christmas reached 834 live viewers and over 2,000 in total. It was the first major-scale production for Vital Culture UK and the direct precursor to A Not So Silent Night and Vital Stories.

What We'd Do Differently

  • Start marketing earlier to reach intended Global Majority target audience more effectively

  • Strengthen onboarding so audiences understood the format before tuning in

  • Build tighter scheduling to avoid running ahead and missing artist sets

  • Improve data capture systems from the start
